Curriculum and Class Levels
Our curriculum follows the ISTD (Imperial Society of Teachers of Dancing) curriculum and our Intermediate and Advanced students complete annual ISTD Exams.
After a student has completed all of 6 dance levels, they are eligible to complete an Arangetram, which is a final graduation performance directed by Ms. Lata Pada.
Adult classes are also offered for those who want to take Bharatanatyam – previous experience is not required
Class Levels:
Elementary 1 & 2
Students are 4 and 5 years old
Classes are 45 minutes long, 1 class per week
Beginner 1, 2 & 3
Students are 6 years old and up
Students learn the basics of Bharatanatyam
Classes are 1 or 2 hours long, 1 or 2 classes per week
Intermediate 1, 2, 3 & 4
Students begin training for ISTD exams and take part in Summer Camp Intensive in July
Classes are 2 to 4 hours long, 1 or 2 classes per week
ADVANCED 1, 2, 3 & 4
Our most demanding and advanced-level classes,
Students continue to train and complete ISTD exams each year
Preparation for individual one-on-one Arangetram/graduation performance begins
4 -6 hours of training every week, multiple classes per week

Professional Training Program
In addition to the main curriculum levels, we also offer a Professional Training Program. This program trains dancers in advanced level bharatanatyam and other movement disciplines.
Dancers preparing to join the professional company, Sampradaya Dance Creations, are encouraged to complete this training program.

York University Joint Program
Launched in 2016-2017, Sampradaya Dance Academy and York University entered into an agreement, allowing graduates from our program to apply credits towards an Undergraduate Degree in Dance at York University.
This is truly an unprecedented milestone for South Asian dance in Canada and a validation of Sampradaya Dance Academy’s excellence in bharatanatyam training.
